How this directory works

Public information

Listings come from public Google business listings and company websites. We started from 273 entries and removed 104, for example where the website no longer loads, never mentions boreholes, or there was no way to contact the company. That left 169.

Not verified

We have not inspected these companies or checked their registration, insurance or workmanship, and a listing is not an endorsement. Drilling companies are not licensed by government at present, so being listed here, or anywhere, is not proof of standing.

Google ratings

Ratings and review counts are Google's, captured in early 2026. Lists are sorted by rating weighted by number of reviews. A high rating is a starting point for your own checks, not a guarantee.

Prices

We do not publish company prices. Ask each company for a written quote, and use our pricing guide and the city pages for indications taken from published guides.

Highest Google-rated companies

Companies with a Google rating of 4.0 or more from at least 5 reviews, as captured in early 2026. A high rating is not our endorsement, and a small number of reviews says little.

Questions to ask before you hire a borehole driller

Check the company yourself. These questions cover the main points to settle before you sign. Rules also differ by municipality, so read the permits and regulations guide first.

  1. 1Can I have a written quote that says what is included: siting survey, drilling per metre, casing, yield test, pump, tank, VAT and any minimum charge?
  2. 2What happens if the borehole is dry or yields very little? Is there a minimum charge, and is it in writing?
  3. 3Who does the siting survey, and is it a SACNASP-registered hydrogeologist or geophysicist?
  4. 4Can I speak to recent customers, and can I see a driller's log or completion report from a recent job?
  5. 5Does the company belong to the Borehole Water Association of Southern Africa, and does it follow SANS 10299 (design, construction and drilling of boreholes)?
  6. 6Will you do a yield test (test pumping), how long will it run, and will I get the results?
  7. 7How will you handle my municipality's rules, and do you submit borehole data to the DWS National Groundwater Archive?
  8. 8Which laboratory will test the water against SANS 241, and will the results come to me?
  9. 9Do you carry public liability insurance, and can you show proof? Is there a written guarantee on workmanship, and what does it cover?
